Schweitzer Engineering Laboratories (SEL), a leader in the power protection industry, had no prior experience working directly with AMI or AMI’s BIOS. When SEL was planning the next generation of computer mainboards for its product line, the company reached out to AMI asking to evaluate AMI’s source and documentation. SEL was provided access to AMI’s source code and Customer Portal, a place where customers have access to documentation and resources.
In some cases, the initial setup and configuration can be tedious for first time users. SEL had to download the licensed source code, go through the VeB setup and then eventually make changes to its source code. Although the task at hand appeared to be difficult, SEL was easily able to go through the setup and get the source code.
No AMI engineers had to be brought in to assist during the process or to provide training. Why? According to SEL, AMI’s Customer Portal had all the necessary documentation needed for the initial setup and configuration. SEL found that AMI not only provided customers extensive documentation on the Portal, but also kept customers up-to-date with notifications, detailed information provided on release notes and allowed customers to access their source code remotely at any time without having to consult an AMI engineer.
When evaluating the AMI BIOS, we were impressed with the comprehensive documentation as well as the quality of the module release notes,” said Christopher Diamond, Development Manager at SEL. “The documentation allows us to quickly and easily customize the BIOS for our customers’ needs.”
When asked about the most impressive aspects of AMI’s products/services, SEL mentioned the modularity, layout and ease of use of VeB. Despite competitive pricing in the industry, SEL made the decision to use Aptio because AMI provided the most value to the company. In the end, SEL had its VeB up and running. Even though it did not need to consult AMI for help the first time around, SEL knows that when it does encounter a situation where it needs assistance, AMI will be there to solve any issues in a timely manner.
