NORCROSS, GEORGIA: AMI®, a global leader in powering, managing and securing the world’s connected digital infrastructure through its BIOS, BMC and security solutions, announces the release of a new Intelligent Setup Map eModule for its flagship Aptio® V UEFI Firmware, which is designed to preserve a system’s BIOS Setup configuration during BIOS field updates.
Specifically, the new Intelligent Setup Map eModule helps migrate the current Setup configuration during the BIOS update process even when the Setup layout has changed in the new or updated BIOS. During BIOS field update in a provisioned system, Intelligent Setup Map migrates the BIOS Setup configuration, so end users can avoid having to re-provision the system after a BIOS field update.
To do so, the Intelligent Setup Map eModule creates a “map” of Setup configuration data. When the new BIOS is introduced or updated to the system, the eModule uses this map to migrate old configuration data to the new BIOS. If a new Setup question is also introduced at this point, the Intelligent Setup Map will load the default value for that Setup question and so preserve the Setup configuration. Conversely, if a Setup question is removed, the saved value will be ignored. Additionally, if the Setup question data size increases, the old value will be extended to fit the size of the new Setup question.
“The new Intelligent Setup Map eModule is a simple yet elegant solution to the problem of retaining BIOS Setup configuration settings during field updates, which can be a time-consuming and sometimes frustrating task,” said AMI Chief Executive Officer, Sanjoy Maity. “We believe that this solution will gain rapid adoption and appreciation throughout the industry, as many manufacturers, organizations and data centers, among others, have long grappled with this task,” he added.
