NORCROSS, GEORGIA: – AMI, a global leader in BIOS and UEFI firmware, server and remote management tools, data storage products and unique solutions based on the Linux® and Android™ operating systems, is pleased to announce the support for a generic method to update NVMe® devices firmware making use of the Firmware Management Protocol outlined in the UEFI specification.

In the NVMe specification, a generic command is defined to update the firmware of an NVMe device. AMI, Inc. (AMI) has developed a standard method for publishing an EFI System Resource Table (ESRT) entry for any NVMe device discovered in the system. When users want to make firmware updates, the updates can be programmed onto the NVMe devices on the next reboot. Alternatively, AMI has enabled a way for users to update the NVMe device firmware from Aptio V UEFI BIOS setup. Utilizing this firmware update method will allow NVMe manufacturers and OEMs to easily apply firmware updates to their respective devices.
