The modern computing world demands that servers and data centers have 99.995% uptime – the equivalent of 26 minutes of downtime per year. Traditionally the server BIOS takes up to three minutes to boot, before passing control to the operating system. The operating system could take an additional 10 minutes to fully boot. If a data center was required to cold boot a server, it could potentially consume its annual acceptable downtime. That is where AMI Performance Measurement Tool (PMT) comes in.
AMI PMT is a visual boot time assistance tool that can help identify bottlenecks and areas where boot times can be improved. In the past, the only way for engineers to work on improving boot times was to manually compare exported BIOS CSV files.
AMI PMT requires Visual eBIOS and features a single-click activation from within Project source allowing the simultaneous comparison of two projects and optimization gains – at a glance – with both graphical and text-based outputs. This analysis tool makes things easier by breaking down the information and identifying drivers with the greatest impact on the system boot time.
