NORCROSS, GEORGIA – AMI®, a global leader in powering, managing and securing the world’s connected digital infrastructure through its BIOS, BMC and security solutions, is pleased to announce its new MegaRAC® OSP™ BMC Firmware Solution for robust and secure remote server management.
The MegaRAC OSP BMC Firmware Solution is an open service processor toolset based on OpenBMC Firmware which has been strengthened and hardened into a production version from AMI, through extensive quality assurance (QA) with bug fixes and AMI’s many years of industry leadership and deep understanding of the BMC development lifecycle. AMI has also enhanced MegaRAC OSP to allow attachment of select AMI proprietary IP from its industry-proven MegaRAC® SP-X™ Server Processor Firmware stack, offering AMI OEM and ODM customers an OpenBMC-based codebase that is thoroughly tested, fully supported, production-ready and can be enhanced with additional IP.
MegaRAC OSP features an intuitive, extensible open-architecture development framework, as well as support for multiple BMC/Hardware-System-on-Chip (SOC) platforms – including the AST Series from ASPEED Technology and other leading manufacturers such as Nuvoton. The key to its flexibility is a robust “common core” concept that delivers a highly managed source base and a complete Service Processor solution for wide product deployments.
As a complete, end-to-end solution for OEMs and ODMs, MegaRAC OSP encompasses a family of “blended” firmware/software, tools, utilities, and services to provide complete server manageability services. Another key component featured in the MegaRAC OSP solution is AMI DevNet Git®-based Firmware Source Code Development and Distribution Environment – a sophisticated, modern toolchain for the highest level of project management capabilities.
AMI is in tune with the needs of the open source community and provides periodic major releases under an open license to the industry via its new Free Open Source Software site. This codebase has also been ported to the MegaRAC OSP Development Kit for the ASPEED AST2600 Server Management Processor. MegaRAC OSP firmware supports several reference designs from the OCP community, OEM platforms and EVBs, with new platforms being added continually based on customer engagements and industry needs.
To get started working with MegaRAC OSP, users need only to create an account on the AMI Free Open Source Software portal to access the free version. For development support, AMI offers several dedicated support agreements at different levels to its customers; once an agreement is executed, customers can access the development tree and utilize the world-class support from AMI as best meets their specific needs.
Additional services offered to MegaRAC OSP OEM/ODM customers include fee-based services for complete development and delivery of the product, along with turnkey and engineering (NRE) services that include BMC feature design and customization, hardware platform porting, QA and security analysis services.
According to AMI Chief Executive Officer Sanjoy Maity, “The AMI value proposition for OpenBMC firmware is in the valuable IP that AMI offers to its OEM and ODM customers to ensure an enterprise-class, feature-rich product. While OpenBMC is brought to maturity by community effort, AMI delivers a simple ‘Path to Production’ plan to all customers. With AMI DevNet available for source code development and distribution, the result is a complete collaborative development framework for OpenBMC customers for hassle-free, quality product delivery.”
