Host Controlled Automated Testing, or HCAT, is a tool used to perform automated testing and designed to ensure quality assurance. It is a collection of software and hardware that provides the ability to take screenshots, provide keyboard input, power cycling, GPIOs and a script interpreter. A custom script can be written for HCAT that provides a way for customized testing. Tests can range from running OEM applications and logging of results to unattended operating system installations. When a specific event occurs, such as a failure, HCAT will capture as much information as possible to a log. After is complete, HCAT can e-mail out a report with all successes and failures for review. AMI has tested HCAT extensively and it has installed multiple operating systems, including Windows® and Linux® operating systems.
AMI currently holds the patent for automated operating system installation on multiple drives, where a device switch allows for a connection between a mass storage device and either a test control system (TCS) or system under test (SUT). With this technology, users can coordinate the installation of multiple operating systems on a SUT. Errors that are detected during the automated installation process are identified and corrected in a computing system firmware.
