The MG9073s highly integrated enclosure controller chip helps to optimize SAS and SATA backplane layout at contained costs. The chip saves board space as it does not require an external crystal, EEPROM or flash.

Based on the most innovative management protocol in the field, Serial GPIO for SAS and SATA Host Bus Adapters, the MG9073s controller supports up to eight SAS/SATA drives with LED and enclosure management. The chip comes in a very small package, measuring just 9x9 millimeters, and is equipped with two SGPIO ports and one SMBus channel for connection with a Baseboard Management Controller (BMC).

The MG9073s is exceptionally versatile, being pin-configurable for up to 16 configurations. Seven reference configurations are already available from AMI - other solutions can be devised upon OEM needs. Three MG9073s chips can be cascaded on the same SGPIO channel to support up to 24 drives.
