NORCROSS, GEORGIA - American Megatrends Inc. (AMI), a leader in BIOS and computing innovations, is pleased to announce Aptio®4.x UEFI BIOS firmware support for the new AMD Embedded G-Series platform recently announced by AMD (NYSE: AMD). This represents the first collaboration between AMI and AMD for a UEFI BIOS-based platform.

The AMD Embedded G-Series platform is distinguished as the first AMD Fusion architecture for embedded solutions, offering a media-rich experience while maintaining very low and efficient power consumption. With a dramatically reduced footprint, the AMD Embedded G-Series helps system designers deliver unique and innovative small form factor designs, yet with reduced complexity and production costs.

Aptio® UEFI BIOS Firmware from AMI for the AMD Embedded G-Series platform supports the complete Aptio utility suite, allowing developers to offer the new APU platform with a number of different OS environments. AMI has also worked closely with AMD to incorporate a number of key eModules into Aptio to enable advanced features and functionality in the AMD Embedded G-Series platform.

This support structure includes the new Aptio Fast Boot eModule, for significant improvements in the speed of OS boot times. The collaboration between AMI and AMD also extends to platform-level diagnostics, as support for AMI Debug™ Rx USB diagnostics and source-level debugging using AMI Debug™ for UEFI are also available. Finally, several robust and mature eModules to support widely-used peripheral devices such as SIO, xHCI and PCIe bridge have also been included in Aptio to provide flexible interface and communications options for developers of the AMD Embedded G-Series platform.

Aptio is built around Visual eBIOS (VeB), the innovative BIOS development environment introduced by AMI in 2001. VeB continues to simplify BIOS development worldwide by removing barriers normally associated with BIOS development in the command line environment. Aptio builds on that experience, providing next-generation BIOS firmware leveraging Unified EFI (UEFI) standards for extended pre-boot functionality. The AMD Embedded G-Series processor platform is supported with Aptio core 4.6.4.x and compatible with UEFI specification version 2.1.

S. Shankar, President and CEO of American Megatrends, commented that "AMI is proud to announce our collaboration with AMD on the recently announced AMD Embedded G-Series platform, as this represents the first instance of AMD incorporating AMI’s Aptio UEFI BIOS firmware into an AMD solution. AMI remains committed to ensuring that our Aptio UEFI firmware offerings satisfy the most rigorous demands of each market segment. AMI’s BIOS solutions cover nearly all of the enterprise, embedded and consumer-oriented processor segments and highlight the growth of AMD architecture solutions across the entire computing spectrum."

"The AMD Embedded G-Series platform provides embedded customers with a complete and scalable, long-life platform that helps speed system design, development and time to market," said Richard Jaenicke, director, Product Marketing, AMD. "Our collaboration with American Megatrends to offer Aptio UEFI BIOS for this innovative new platform, as well as the extensive collection of eModules available with Aptio, greatly expands the flexibility and options for embedded system designers."

Aptio® 4.x evaluation BIOS for AMD Customer Reference Boards featuring the AMD Embedded G-Series processor platform are available now. Interested parties are encouraged to contact AMI’s Software Sales Department for details at 1-800-U-BUY-AMI.
