NORCROSS, GEORGIA - American Megatrends Inc. (AMI) is pleased to announce that its Aptio®4.x UEFI BIOS firmware supports the new second generation Intel® Core™ processor family recently announced by Intel. The latest evolution of the Intel Core processor family includes solutions for desktop, mobile and embedded systems and offers a number of innovations including incredible gains in performance and responsiveness, new enhanced visual features and a number of security and manageability additions over the previous generation.

Aptio® UEFI BIOS Firmware from American Megatrends includes support for all of the latest features and improvements to the 2nd generation Intel Core processor family to enable developers to get the most out of these platforms.

S. Shankar, President and CEO of American Megatrends, commented that "AMI is proud to announce our continued support for the expanded Intel® Core™ processor family. The growth of the Intel® Core™ processor family enables even greater adoption of UEFI BIOS firmware solutions, and our Aptio is at the forefront. AMI remains committed to ensuring that our Aptio UEFI firmware offerings satisfy the most rigorous demands of each market segment. AMI’s BIOS solutions cover nearly all of the enterprise, embedded and consumer-oriented processor segments and highlight the growth of Intel® architecture solutions across the entire computing spectrum."

Aptio is built around Visual eBIOS (VeB), the innovative BIOS development environment introduced by AMI in 2001. VeB continues to simplify BIOS development worldwide by removing barriers normally associated with BIOS development in the command line environment. Aptio builds on that experience, providing next-generation BIOS firmware leveraging Unified EFI (UEFI) standards for extended pre-boot functionality.

"The 2nd generation Intel® Core™ processor family offers flexibility to enable distinct, targeted solutions for specific market segments, including desktop and mobile designs as well as embedded solutions for digital signage, retail and transaction systems, industrial automation, gaming, and medical systems," said Matt Langman, director of product marketing, Intel Embedded Computing Division. "Users can experience the improvements of the 2nd generation Intel® Core™ processor family thanks to AMI Aptio 4.x solutions for full OS compatibility and UEFI pre-boot functionality."

Aptio 4.x evaluation BIOS for Intel Customer Reference Boards featuring the Intel Core processor family are available now. Interested parties are encouraged to contact AMI’s Software Sales Department for details.
