ATLANTA, GEORGIA – American Megatrends (AMI) will showcase its new AMI Debug Rx™ debug device at Embedded World in Nuremburg, Germany from March 3 - 5, 2009. AMI will be located in the congatec AG booth, number 12.122 in Hall 12 of the Exhibition Centre Nuremberg.

AMI Debug Rx is the first of its kind: a low-cost debug tool built around the debug port capabilities of USB 2.0 EHCI controllers. AMI Debug Rx was designed primarily as replacement for the PCI "Port 80 Checkpoint Card", which is becoming less useful in the PC market as newer systems omit the traditional PCI expansion slot. This product is targeted to power users, quality assurance labs and service technicians. AMI Debug Rx is designed for small-form factor systems with no exposed PCI add-in slots, perfect for today’s embedded and netbook platforms.

The AMI Debug Rx design replaces the checkpoint card’s traditional 7-segment LED with a small LCD screen, providing the ability to display more descriptive debugging messages. Future upgrades to the AMI Debug Rx device will add unique debug features for AMIBIOS8 and Aptio 4.x customers, including the ability to pass hardware configuration data at specified checkpoints.

Key features of the first generation, standard edition AMI Debug Rx include:

  • Primarily designed as a replacement for the PCI port 80h checkpoint card
  • Low cost device for development or field use
  • Checkpoints can be captured and stored to one of four "sessions" for later review
  • Display descriptive text for each checkpoint, based on string table loaded by user
  • Works with AMI Debug for UEFI to enable source-level BIOS debugging

"AMI is proud to have the opportunity to showcase its new AMI Debug Rx debug device, along with our AMIBIOS and Aptio solutions for embedded products on such a large stage. Embedded World is the preeminent event for embedded solutions and AMI is intent on maintaining its position as a leader in providing cutting-edge BIOS solutions and diagnostic products for this market," said S. Shankar, President and CEO of American Megatrends.

American Megatrends would like to warmly welcome its customers, partners and media representatives to Embedded World to learn more about the new AMI Debug Rx debug device, and invites attendees to visit the congatec AG booth for demonstrations and detailed product information for the complete family of quality AMI BIOS and UEFI solutions for embedded products.
