ATLANTA, GEORGIA - American Megatrends is pleased to announce that its Aptio® 4.x UEFI and AMIBIOS 8 firmware solutions support the 45nm Intel® Atom™ Processor N270. This processor is validated with the Mobile Intel® 945GSE Express Chipset, which consists of the Intel® 82945GSE Graphics Memory Controller Hub and Intel® I/O Controller Hub 7-M, to deliver the economy and balanced low power / high performance critical to today’s embedded and communications applications.
"We expect that this new platform will build on the strong momentum that Intel is generating in the embedded and mobile space with the Intel® Atom™ architecture. AMI is committed to support these rapidly growing market segments by enabling solutions with the power and flexibility of Aptio and AMIBIOS8," said S. Shankar, President and CEO of American Megatrends.
The Mobile Intel® 945GSE Express chipset features power-efficient graphics with an integrated 32-bit 3D graphics engine based on the Intel® Graphics Media Accelerator 950 architecture with multiple display ports. This chipset also provides rich I/O capabilities and flexibility via high-bandwidth interfaces such as PCI Express, PCI, Serial ATA, and Hi-Speed USB 2.0 connectivity. A single channel for 400/533 MHz DDR2 system memory and the Intel® High Definition Audio interface round out its key features.
"The Intel Atom processor N270-based platform enables American Megatrends’ customers to create innovative low power, high performance, entry-level embedded platforms with UEFI and BIOS solutions," said Jonathan Luse, director of marketing, Low Power Embedded Products Division, Intel. "These Intel processors running AMIBIOS8 and Aptio help our customers quickly take Intel designs from concept to production."
AMIBIOS8 is built around Visual eBIOS (VeB), the innovative development environment designed specifically for BIOS porting. VeB was released with the original AMIBIOS8 in 2001 and continues to simplify BIOS development worldwide by removing barriers normally associated with BIOS development in the command line environment. Aptio builds on that experience, providing next-generation BIOS firmware based on Unified EFI (UEFI) and the Intel® Platform Innovation Framework for EFI.
