INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, Shanghai, April 2, 2008 – American Megatrends (AMI), a leader in BIOS and computing innovations, will showcase its advanced UEFI firmware solution, Server Management Solutions and Enclosure Management chips at IDF Shanghai 2008.
AMI will demonstrate the functionality and advantages of its flagship Aptio Firmware Solution on currently shipping notebook products from MSI computers and on next-generation ultra-mobile platforms.
Aptio provides a complete firmware solution based on the Unified Extensible Firmware Interface (UEFI) standard. UEFI defines a modern interface between personal computer operating systems and platform firmware, overcoming many limitations in the existing legacy BIOS model. Aptio extends the UEFI model into all aspects of firmware development, leveraging modern concepts in development and deployment tools:
- Visual eBIOS (VeB): AMI’s innovative integrated development environment, created for product-strength firmware development
- Compatibility Support Module (CSM): provides backward compatibility with existing operating systems and applications on top of Aptio’s UEFI support
- AMI Debug for UEFI: source level debugging for Aptio firmware, UEFI drivers and pre-boot applications
- AMIDIAG for UEFI: true hardware diagnostics, executed in a pre-OS environment
- Full set of flash and deployment utilities: AMI Firmware Update, AMIBCP, MMTool and DMIEDIT
The Aptio® code base is efficiently organized, based on a straightforward directory approach designed to minimize development time and simplify code maintenance. Aptio facilitates easy integration of the open source EFI Developer Kit (EDK) and reference code provided by the Intel Mobile Platform Group (MPG), and Aptio UEFI firmware is featured on a number of Intel customer reference boards. AMI offers support for a complete range of mobile technologies, including embedded controller firmware supporting chips from Renesas, ITE, Winbond, Fujitsu and SMSC.
American Megatrends will also present its MegaRAC® SP firmware, which implements virtual KVM and IPMI 2.0 for a variety of highly integrated BMCs from major silicon vendors, including ASPEED, Renesas, Server Engines, Vitesse and Winbond. MegaRAC® SP is one of the components of the Bladebrix™ solution for Open Blade Servers, which also includes:
- MegaRAC® CM Chassis Management Firmware for power management and health monitoring of blades on chassis, supporting virtual KVM and media redirection;
- MegaRAC® XMS™ Management Software for discovery, power management and health monitoring, providing information across all blades and chassis categorized by sensor type, criticality and blade. The software views simultaneous KVM consoles and provides complete event logs, alerts, virtual media redirection and asset tracking and management.
- AMI’s MegaRAC® Management building blocks, based on DMTF management standards such as CIM, SMASH/CLP and WSMAN, provide advanced and powerful server management based on high-speed, high-quality remote KVM/IP.
AMI will also present its noted enclosure management chips for SAS/SATA backplanes based on SGPIO and SES-2 technology. AMI’s controller chip design is based on a highly integrated approach that saves board space and optimizes backplane layout at contained costs. This product line includes the MG9071 and MG9072 controller chips, both featuring SES-2 enclosure Management Protocol and Serial GPIO Support, as well as the compact, highly integrated MG9073S and MG9077 with SMBUS support and integrated oscillator, temperature sensor, clock and Flash. These versatile controller chips come with a vast library of reference designs from AMI for faster implementation.
