American Megatrends to Demonstrate AMI Aptio at Embedded Systems Conference

Monday: April 2, 2007

Editorial Summary:

  • AMI will demonstrate Aptio, an advanced firmware solution implementing the UEFI specification, at the Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley
  • Aptio provides an innovative firmware platform based on the EFI model, the latest, most advanced interface between system hardware and OS that will power upcoming next-generation computer systems

San Jose, CA – American Megatrends, a leader in computing innovations, will demonstrate AMI Aptio® as a UEFI solution for embedded platforms at Embedded Systems Conference Silicon Valley (April 1-5, San Jose, CA) at booth n. 2010.

American Megatrends will demonstrate Aptio®, its latest firmware platform designed for Unified EFI (UEFI) specifications and the Intel® Platform Innovation Framework for EFI, providing a next-generation firmware code-base to enable desktop, mobile, server and embedded platforms.

AMI Aptio offers all the advantages of the innovative UEFI model, while leveraging over 20 years of BIOS experience to enable embedded vendors with a faster time to market. AMI Aptio is a modular and extensible code-base, written in C, that easily integrates new technology modules and third party drivers. This high degree of modularity enables embedded vendors to cut out unnecessary drivers when building firmware for UEFI platforms, an important advantage that leads to better boot time.

"AMI knows well the needs of embedded manufacturers. With Aptio we offer them the latest and greatest in technology innovation and platform stability, together with the tools and expertise that enable them to offer best-in-class products, on target and on time, to their OEMs and customers" said Imran Ahmad, AMI’s Sales Manager. "We are excited to work with AMPRO, a long-term customer and user of our AMIBIOS® 8, to demonstrate our innovations in technology."

American MegaTrends and Ampro have worked together on boards utilizing AMD Geode LX800 and BIOS extensions supporting legacy ISA technology utilized in a variety of industrial fields. AMIBIOS8, a modular BIOS code-base, has been successfully utilized by PC and embedded manufacturers for years with a variety of Intel and AMD processors and chipsets.

AMI Aptio includes a wealth of development tools that speed up platform development and facilitate manufacturing environments:

  • Visual eBIOS (VeB) graphical development environment designed to ease firmware development with custom tools, project management & integrated source control
  • AMI Debug for EFI provides a graphical interface to debug EFI firmware and applications
  • Tools for firmware customization, such as AMIBCP, ChangeLogo and MMTool
  • Tools for Manufacturing, including EFI diagnostics and AMI Flash utilities for DOS, EFI Shell, FreeBSD, Linux and Microsoft Windows.

AMI Aptio has been extensively tested and is available for a number of Intel chipsets, as well chipsets from AMD, NVIDIA, VIA and SiS. AMI Aptio firmware is also available for Intel MPG and IPD reference platforms.

Aptio will be presented at the AMPRO booth n. 2010.
