American Megatrends' Aptio® System Software Selected by Mitac

Thursday: June 2, 2005

Editorial Summary:

  • Mitac, a renowned design and manufacturing services provider, has selected AMI's Aptio system software for its EFI-compliant computers.

ATLANTA, GEORGIA - American Megatrends Inc. (AMI), a leading provider of computer technologies, announced today that Mitac, a major design and manufacturing services provider, has adopted AMI Aptio to power its next EFI-based computer platforms.

Aptio EFI-compliant system software overcomes legacy BIOS limitations while providing a modular, extensible firmware model that allows drop-in of new modules or components without completely re-engineering the BIOS. Aptio is based on the Intel Platform Innovation for EFI, adding several drivers and tools for firmware development and customization. The Extensible Firmware Interface specification, originally developed and utilized for Intel Itanium, is now increasingly being considered and utilized for 32-bit systems with 64-bit extensions.

Aptio provides an ideal transition path to firmware programming based on EFI. Aptio robust code-base has been extensively tested and de-bugged, and comes with the same wide set of tools and support utilities that AMI provides to AMIBIOS8 customers. Visual eBIOS (VeB) provides an effective graphical interface with tools to guide and organize any firmware project.

"AMI provides a feature-rich code base for the transition to EFI-based BIOS firmware, while maintaining continuity with the development tools, methods and look-and-feel our BIOS firmware engineers are used to," said James Wu, Vice President at Mitac. "More importantly, AMI is experienced and capable of providing first-hand support should we encounter any issues."

"AMI Aptio provides our customers the tools required to transition to EFI at their own pace, while continuing to have full support from AMI both for their AMIBIOS8 and Aptio projects. We’re proud that our customers confirm the trust they have always had in AMI as a development partner" said Mike Shields, AMI’s Sales Manager for Asia-Pacific.
