American Megatrends' Aptio® Selected by Quanta Computer

Monday: May 30, 2005

Editorial Summary:

  • Quanta Computer, one of the major motherboard manufacturers worldwide, has selected AMI Aptio for its incoming computer designs enabled by EFI firmware.

ATLANTA, GEORGIA - American Megatrends Inc. (AMI), a leading provider of storage and computing innovations worldwide, today announced that its premier EFI system software, Aptio, has been selected by Quanta Computer, a leading motherboard manufacturer, to enable its future EFI-compliant computer platforms.

"Aptio will provide the features necessary to design value-add system platforms featuring 64-bit technologies," said H.C. Wang, senior manager at Quanta. "The EFI model overcomes the limits of legacy BIOS, such as 1 GB memory limit and Option ROM size limits. Aptio allows us to experiment all the possibilities offered by the Extensible Firmware Interface specification, that will allow us to provide more advanced, higher-performance systems to our customers while maintaining excellent time-to-market."

"We’ve been working with Quanta for a number of years, always striving to provide the best support on top of the widest feature set," said Mike Shields, AMI’s sales manager. "This agreement confirms the strength of this business relationship and the quality of our product."

Aptio is AMI’s implementation of the Intel Platform Innovation Framework, complete with a robust set of tools that enable computer developers to customize the firmware for their platform designs. The firmware introduces a new modular, extensible architecture aiming to ease the introduction of new, more powerful hardware platforms. Under the EFI architecture, computer engineers can add or change platform components with minimal effort, without re-engineering the entire system software.
