COMPUTEX, TAIPEI, TAIWAN - American Megatrends Inc. (AMI), a leading provider of storage and computing innovations worldwide, announced today at Computex that its EFI-based Aptio system software has been selected by Asustek, a leading computer, communications and consumer electronics provider, for its upcoming EFI-based systems.

Aptio system software expands and enriches the Intel’s EFI Framework, providing a complete and stable firmware solution for systems and notebooks of future generation. Aptio is ideally suited to support systems based on upcoming Intel dual core processors and related chipsets.

Aptio overcomes the limitations of legacy BIOS with an extensible architecture compliant with the EFI specification, providing the technological basis for server, desktop and notebook platforms based on dual core microprocessors and 64-bit operating systems. Aptio provides the full benefits of the EFI model for systems utilizing Intel chipsets, while enhancing stability and usability of the Framework.

AMI eases the transition for BIOS customers by porting the same tools and utilities provided for AMIBIOS8 to Aptio, including VeB, AMI’s proven visual development environment, in the same easy-to-use interface. Customizable training programs, complete with hands-on programming sections, are also available from AMI.

"AMI is delighted to announce that ASUS and other primary motherboard manufacturers have selected Aptio for their next-generation notebook and desktop designs," said S.J. Lin, president of AMI Grand China. "Our R&D is committed to support customers’ transition with a full range of server, desktop and mobile features, according to their own timing and preferences."

Ted Hsu, ASUS vice president, R&D Division, remarked: "ASUS has selected Aptio for its breadth of technology features and for the availability of a full set of development tools. We are confident we will obtain first-class support from AMI, which has been a responsive development partner for quite some time now."

Aptio is presently available in version 2.0 for the Intel 915 Express family, i915 G and E7320 chipsets. The upcoming Aptio 3.0 will support Intel dual core microprocessors and relative chipsets.

AMI will also demonstrate its storage and remote management products at Computex:

  • MegaRAC remote management cards and embedded micro-KVMs, based on AMI’s high-speed patented compression technology, all featuring IPMI 2.0 management firmware;
  • AMI dual-dialect storage appliances, providing both IP-SAN and NAS technology, on a 1U or 3U appliance scaling from 1TB to 6TB.
