AMI presents its Aptio® firmware solution based on EFI and the Framework at Intel Developer Forum in Taipei
Tuesday: April 12, 2005
Editorial Summary:
- AMI will demonstrate its Aptio next generation BIOS at Intel Developer Forum in Taipei on April 11-12 2005, at booth No.: A8
- Aptio provides tools and training for an easy migration to the new firmware platform
INTEL DEVELOPER FORUM, TAIWAN, April 11 – 12, 2005 - American Megatrends Inc. (AMI), a leading provider of storage and computing innovations worldwide, will showcase Aptio platform firmware, compatible with the EFI framework specifications, at booth A8.
Aptio 2.0 provides a complete platform software solution based on the Extensible
Firmware Interface (EFI) and the Intel® Platform Innovation Framework for EFI. Aptio
main advantage is architectural extensibility: the possibility to add new technologies
and components to a platform with ease. With Aptio, the code developed for a desktop
platform can be utilized for a server or mobile computer with minimal effort.
"AMI Grand China offices are committed to support our customers to transition to
the new platform paradigm at their own pace, with the training required to understand
and master the EFI software architecture" said S.J. Lin, President of AMI Grand China.
"AMI has worked jointly with Intel for 5 years on EFI. Motherboard developers
transitioning to EFI with Aptio will benefit from a complete set of great development
tools, in-depth training and excellent support" said SJ "We are confident that products
conforming to the Framework firmware specification will present a shorter, easier
development cycle and greater adaptability to more advanced hardware components."
The strength of Aptio offering is based on:
- Robust framework code, extensively tested and improved by AMI
- Graphical development tools (VeB, AMI Debug) and support utilities (AMI Flash
Update, ChangeLogo, DMIEdit, MMTool, AMIBCP) that provide a smooth transition
from AMIBIOS8 to Aptio
- Graphical Setup Environment (GSE) and Pre-Boot Application (PBA) support
AMI’s engineering support for customers developing & validating EFI solutions
Visual eBIOS (VeB), the graphical development environment for AMIBIOS8, is also
used for Aptio development. The proven & stable VeB environment allows AMIBIOS8
customers the opportunity to rapidly transition to Aptio, further reducing development
time.
AMI Debug for EFI is a software debugger for Aptio & EFI applications that provides
in-depth source debugging features, requiring inexpensive equipment such as a PC and
serial and USB Cables to connect the target system. AMI Debug for EFI can be used to
debug Aptio PEI & DXE code.
The AMI Graphical Setup Environment (GSE) represents a new approach to system
boot, providing a graphical pre-OS interface for the end-user. Traditional BIOS setup is
replaced with an intuitive mouse-based interface, easily customized for any OEM look &
feel. Pre-boot applications (PBA) such as AMI Rescue are also launched from a
graphical dialog. GSE can instantly integrate third-party applications of OEM choice.
Alternatively, OEMs can utilize the AMI Text Setup Environment (TSE) for a look and
feel consistent with traditional BIOS setup.
AMI provides a complete and effective EFI Training Program that can be
customized on customer’s request. "Stage 1" training provides an introduction to the
Aptio code structure and concepts. "Stage 2" training focuses on porting skills and
advanced Aptio concepts.
