SANTA CLARA, CALIFORNIA - American Megatrends Inc. (AMI), a leading provider of storage and computing innovations worldwide, announces new server management solutions and technologies at Server Blade Summit 2005 held March 22-24 at the Marriott Hotel in Santa Clara, California.
AMI will showcase its complete offering of server management solutions at Server Blade Summit 2005. Its MegaRAC family of server management products enhances out-of-band remote management across all platforms – from rack mount servers to stand-alone and blade servers. First-tier OEMs and ODMs have successfully utilized MegaRAC remote management cards since 1996. AMI’s highly innovative Vides video compression algorithm, improves MegaRAC remote technology with immediate, high-speed, high-quality image rendering.
AMI’s newest addition to the MegaRAC family, the M100, integrates high-performance graphical console redirection (KVM/IP) with IPMI 2.0 remote server management on a very small footprint daughter card, at a very attractive price point. MegaRAC M100 provides side-band management, utilizing the system motherboard’s LAN interface to monitor and generate alerts and corrective actions even when the operating system is down. When equipped with optional NIC and standby power, the M100 delivers complete out-of-band management effective in any power state of the system. M100 can be implemented on any industry standard management connector or AMI’s proprietary connector specification. In addition, the M100 Implementers Guide enables effortless motherboard integration. Future OEM/ODM server products incorporating MegaRAC M100 will be remotely managed side-band or out-of band from anywhere in the world at anytime.
Along with M100, the MegaRAC family also extends its offerings by introducing IPMC firmware stack for ATCA and Server Blade extension to the IPMI. The stack provides IPMI 2.0 functionality optimized for the management of the blade server units that compose an Advanced Telecom Computing Architecture (ATCA) system.
The MegaRAC family also offers a high-end solution, the MegaRAC G3, ideally suited for managing business critical servers. MegaRAC G3 is built on AMI’s robust, state-of-the-art G3SP Firmware Suite that provides critical features such as: virtual-BMC stack, IPMI 2.0 manager, KVM/IP stack, Virtual media redirection stack, Firewall, SSH/SSL, Encryption, sophisticated user management scheme for the enterprise, LDAP/Active Directory and many other features. The G3SP suite also provides a web based interface, rich tool chain and extensive development kit – PDK (Platform Development Kit). Through the PDK, OEMs and customers can easily add their own Intellectual Properties without touching the base firmware. The G3SP Firmware Suite is a solid stepping stone or building block for the future advanced Blade Server Management. It is the skeleton for building an advanced Management Module and the ATCA based Shelf-Manager.
With the MegaRAC family of server management solutions, OEMs have the ability to integrate their servers with the same video redirection capability offered by expensive digital KVM at considerably less cost, giving their customers a substantial price/performance advantage. Currently these solutions are available for Renesas H8/216X or PowerPC BMC running the AMI IPMI firmware stack.
