American Megatrends Demonstrates its Next-Generation Firmware Solutions at Intel Developer Forum, Taipei

Friday: October 22, 2004

Editorial Summary:

  • AMI will demonstrate Aptio™, its next-generation BIOS at IDF Taiwan, Taipei, booth A41
  • AMI will also demonstrate AMI Rescue™, a pre-boot application for system and data recovery in EFI and BIOS environments
  • AMI will present on the topic "Advancing the Framework for OEM/ODM Solutions"

Atlanta, Georgia - American Megatrends Inc. (AMI) will demonstrate Aptio, its next-generation BIOS, and AMI Rescue for system and data recovery at the Intel Developer Forum (IDF) in Taipei, Taiwan at the Taipei International Convention Center (booth A41).

Aptio is AMI’s next-generation BIOS firmware based on the Intel Platform Innovation Framework for EFI, a new purpose-built architecture that represents the future of platform firmware enabling. Aptio is designed for OEM/ODM customers developing EFI and Framework-based solutions for upcoming products. Along with silicon enabling components, Aptio can be expanded using a variety of drivers, development tools, support utilities and pre-boot application solutions:

  • Development Applications: Visual eBIOS (VeB) and AMI Debug for EFI
  • Support Utilities: AMI Flash Utility suite, Change Logo, DMIEDIT for SMBIOS data management
  • AMI PreBoot Application (PBA) environment, allows OEM/ODM to store and execute pre-boot applications in a protected and hidden disk partition
  • AMI Graphical Setup Environment (GSE), dramatically enhances the user experience when configuring the system
  • Graphical Execution Environment, used to rapidly develop GUI applications for EFI
  • Compatibility Support Module (CSM), providing “legacy BIOS” compatibility based on AMIBIOS8

AMI will be presenting on the topic "Advancing the Framework for OEM/ODM Solutions." The tutorial will discuss how to produce product-strength firmware using the Intel Platform Innovation Framework for EFI, a review of the latest news regarding the Framework and how this improves firmware development, filling the gaps between today's BIOS and next-generation Framework firmware and AMI's solutions for the Framework.

AMI will also introduce AMI Rescue, its new pre-boot recovery software compatible with BIOS and EFI core environments. AMI Rescue products, provided at two levels of functionality, enable end-users to recover their systems from software failure. By saving end-users time and effort, AMI Rescue improves customer satisfaction while reducing support costs for the system builder.

1. AMI Rescue: recovers the system image installed at the factory. The product is available under EFI and Microsoft WinPE.

2. AMI Rescue Plus: is a non-destructive file-based recovery executed under Microsoft WinPE. The user can reload the parts of the OS required to regain system functionality with no damage to data and applications, or recover his system back to a previous working point, including data. This service works in conjunction with the AMI restore point creation utility. AMI Rescue Plus allows for multiple restore points to be created. The user can rescue multiple earlier restore points, increasing data protection.

AMI’s Aptio solution is available for testing and evaluation using the Aptio Evaluation Kit, an AMI motherboard based on the Intel i875 chipset complete with an Aptio firmware solution. This motherboard allows software developers, testers and firmware engineers to evaluate the Framework "out of the box."
